From 2nd till 5th February, 2009, NGO “Veras” holds the second part of courses on topics “Psychology and pedagogic of children with emotional development disorders, included early child’s autism ” (24 h.). The course will be held on basis of the Consulting and Diagnostic Center, kindergarten №110, Nizhniy Novgorod. This seminar is a part of the big courses of improvement of professional skills for pedagogic and social workers. These courses (144 hours in total) are organized by NGO “Veras” in the frames of the project “Creation and development of family support services for children with disability from 0 till 6 years and their parents”. The project is financed by Russian branch of the international organization “Handicap International” (France) on the program “EU – to Russia”.

Action of Human Dignity Support.

Official opening of Service of social adaptation and rehabilitation
 in the frames of the Agreement on social partnership between
Nizhny Novgorod Region NGO of Assistance to Children and Youth “Veras”
 and Charitable NGO of invalids from childhood “Raduga”.
 
On 24th December, 2008, in a big hall of the House of Culture, on the central street of the city of Nizhniy Novgorod, Bolshaya Pokrovskaya str., took place the final event of the  Action of Human Dignity Supportin the frames of the project “Different are Equal”.

 The goal of the project is: social and everyday adaptation, rehabilitation and pre-occupational training of teenagers and young people with disabilities by organizing permanently functioning service of social adaptation and rehabilitation.

 Stages of the action:

1. Seeking of sponsors (socially responsible business,budget financing) for the renovation of the premises of NGO “Raduga” with the goal of organizing social adaptation and rehabilitation service for children and young people with disabilities (June – September 2008).
2. Renovation of the premises attracting volunteers, active parents and construction company (July – November, 2008).  
3. Creating good conditions for organizing activities on social adaptation and rehabilitation of children and young people with disabilities: preparation of the premises for the activity of the service. Acquiring of the necessary equipment (October – December, 2008).  

4.  Organizing classes on social and everyday adaptation and rehabilitation for children and young people with disabilities. (November - December, 2008).
5. Final official event of the Action of Human Dignity Support“Different are Equial”, opening of Service of social adaptation and rehabilitation for children and young people with disabilities, media coverage (December 24, 2008).
Brief information on the project  “Different are Equal”.

For reaching the goals of the project “Different are Equal” Nizhny Novgorod Region NGO of Assistance to Children and Youth “Veras” and Charitable NGO of invalids from childhood “Raduga” from June 2008 joined the efforts for holding the Action of Human Dignity Support.
Social adaptation and rehabilitation service:
Target group of the project is teenagers and young people with disabilities.  
For the activity of service of social adaptation and rehabilitation two day-stay groups were organized:
1. Adaptation group for teenagers and young people with severe and combined disabilities - 11.
2. Support group of pre-occupational training and employment for young people with moderate and combined disabilities - 15 people.
Adaptation group includes teenagers and young people with severe and combined disabilities. All of them either get home education or get no education services at all. Nevertheless all of them got consultation help of “Veras” and from time to time attended development classes in “Veras” or in “Raduga”.    
Support group includes 15 young people with moderate disabilities.  Before 18 some of them attended rehabilitation and social adaptation department in SE “Regional Center of Social Help to Family and Children “Zhuravushka”. The rest graduated from correction school №39 or other correction schools, with which we keep permanent contact.  
On the example of the adaptation and support groups NGO “Veras” probates new methods of social adaptation, forms working skills of teenagers and young people in order to prepare them to independent life, including the following steps:
A) preparation for educational activities, social everyday adaptation and forming of elementary working skills of children with moderate and severe forms of disabilities;
B) social and everyday adaptation, forming of elementary abilities and skills, their use in accessible occupation, pre-occupational training of children and young people with disabilities on the following directions:
- printing art with use of the following equipment:  laminator, stitcher, cutter, copy machine,
- forming of computer skills;
- sewing.
For the time of realization of the project “Different are Equal” teenagers from adaptation group acquired initial social and everyday adaptation skills. Young people from support group got first skills of printing art: making notebooks, cards, lamination of booklets and ets.
In the year 2009 teenagers and young people with disabilities will attend study groups on photo, origami, textile and paper works, theater circle and others. 
In the result of the action different recourses, human and financial, were attracted.  Thanks to interaction between NGOs “Veras”, “Raduga”, “Invatour”, N. Novgorod Volunteer Service, “Sphere” in the renovation took part:
- volunteers from Germany, Belgium, Korea, Russia (tutors and students of N. Novgorod State Construction and Architecture University);
- teenagers, temporarily employed with support of the Employment Service of Moskovskiy district;
- young people with disabilities and parents.  

Financial support for renovation of the premises gave socially responsible commercial firms; it was primary services and materials for renovation. In total in Action took part 27 companies (the list is below).
Financial support also gave the International Charitable organization “Star of Hope”, Sweden.

The final stage of the Action of Human Dignity Supportwas opened by master-classes with participation of teenagers and their parents:  beadworks, sewing, textile works (dolls making), pyrography, printing works, embroidery. Children showed on practice what they can do, in what way and what they plan to do further.  Everybody could join them at master-classes. For participants sweet table was organized.
During the presentation of the project “Different are Equal” participants could see which resources were attracted for renovation, what was the result and how the service of social adaptation and rehabilitation was organized on the basis of NGO “Raduga”. All partners got thanks letters, souvenirs and New Year greeting cards, made by teenagers and young people attending “Raduga”. They also prepared small concert. In the end NGO “Koncort” performed puppet show and “Theater of Changes” showed film on performance “Aliona’s world beyond the window glass”. 
Plans of NGO “Veras”:
- Further development of the service of social adaptation and rehabilitation for teenagers and young people with disabilities;
- Further acquiring equipment for the activity of the service;
- Making training apartment for teaching young people skills of independent living;
- Holding fests and organizing the festival “Light Your Star”;
- Further development of the early intervention program for families, having child with development disorders; 
- Development of support service for families, having child with functional disorders.

In the framework of celebration of the Social Worker day, 5th of June, the Department of Social Support of Population, Labour and Employment of Nizhny Novgorod region awarded the winners of the contest of organizations and institutions giving social service to families and children of Nizhny Novgorod region.
This contest is dedicated to the year of Family in Russian Federation and aimed to raise the status of social institutions in Nizhny Novgorod region. 
The following kinds of governmental and non-governmental organizations and institutions took part in this contest:

1. social-rehabilitation centers for adolescents;
2. social support centers for families and children;
3. rehabilitation centers for children and teenagers with disabilities;
4. NGOs, offering social service to families and children.

The contest had 5 nominations:

1. Efficient social rehabilitation for adolescents in a difficult situation in their life;
2. Achievements in placing children to families
3. Efficiency of work on prevention of family problems;
4. High quality of social service to families, raising children with disabilities;
5.  High quality of social service to women in a difficult situation.

Nizhny Novgorod Regional Non-governmental Organization for Children and Youth Support “Veras” was recognized a winner in the nomination “High quality of social service to families, raising children with disabilities”was awarded with a silver diploma and 25 000 rubles.

May 30,  2008  the winners of the “Charitable season 2007” were awarded. Benefactors, volunteers and social partners,  got their awards for 10th time. “Nizhny Novgorod charitable 
seasons” have been held annually from 1999 by initiative of Nizhny Novgorod Association of NGOs “Sluzhenie”, Nizhny Novgorod Voluntary service and Agency of social information in Nizhny Novgorod.
“Nizhny Novgorod charitable seasons” are aimed to create comfortable environment for activation of voluntary, charitable and legislative initiatives of Nizhny Novgorod region leading to development of social field of the region. Expert council consists of regional and city authorities, representatives of commercial and non-commercial organizations and media – winners of the previous “Nizhny Novgorod charitable seasons”.
The general topic of the season this year was devoted to children. NGO “Veras” was awarded in the nomination “Civil initiative of NGO” for initiative of creating the Consulting-dignostic centre. In June 2007 the Department of Education and Social-legal Support of the Childhood of Nizhny Novgorod City administration with cooperation of NGO Veras  opened the only in Nizhny Novgorod region Consulting-diagnostic center with early intervention service for children with disabilities and their families.

May 15, 2008 by the initiative of authorized representative of the President of Russian Federation in the Privolzhsky federal district was organized round table “ Family, society, national identity – development strategy  of Russia”. The participants of round table were: deputy of  authorized representative of the President of Russian Federation in the Privolzhsky federal district V.Zorin, Archbishop of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas, president of the board of Charity fund of St. Seraphim Sarovskiy -   archbishop Georgy, members of the Public Chamber of Russia, members of the Public Council on development of civil society institutions, experts of the Charity fund of St. Seraphim Sarovskiy, organizers of the of the contest “Family hearth”, oragaizations – winners of the projects contest “Family hearth”.
The round table was dedicated to the discussion of the problems of the family and discussion of results of the contest “Family hearth”. 302 project applications participated at the contest, 98 projects won, including 22 projects from Nizhny Novgorod region.
Among the winners was NGO “Veras” with the project “ Family – to every child with disablities”.

In the period April 13 –April 24 2008  NGO Veras and Swiss Contact, Senior Expert Corps (SEC), Switzerland organized a 2-weeks course of advanced training for professionals in pedagogical, social and  medical professions. The trainings were presented by three Experts for Occupational Therapy: Luzia Isenegger, Brigitte Eggenberger and Andrea Petrig.
The course of trainings was focused on integration and rehabilitation of children and young people with disabilities. It contained seminars, workshops, consultations and supervisions.
The topics of the advanced training were the following:

• ICF (International classification of functioning, health and disabilities, WHO 2001) as a structure for a holistic diagnostic in therapeutic work, introduction and application
• The meaning and value of Activities of Daily Living  (ADL) for People with disabilities
• Thesis and strategies towards a child oriented and reasonable integration
• Ergonomics for parents and professionals
• Being in balance in the role of a helper
• Diagnoses of occupation and participation
• Setting targets in therapy
• Developing adaptations
• Preserving children rights in school, family and therapy

During these 2 weeks there was also organized the interdisciplinary round table “Thesis to a child-oriented and reasonable integration” with representatives of the Department of education and social-legal support to the childhood of Nizhny Novgorod City Administration and Department of social support of population, labour and employment of Nizhny Novgorod region, representatives of nongovernmental organizations and young people with disabilities.
Swiss occupational therapists and participants of the seminars visited school №39 and   “Stupeni” service at the center “Zhuravushka” - there was organized the workshop “Children’s rights”. Young people with disabilities got the opportunity to speak about their rights and the obstacles they meet in the realization.
At the end of the course all participants got the certificates.
The 2-weeks advanced training was organized in collaboration with NGO Veras, Nizhny Novgorod and the participation of the Department of education and social-legal support to the childhood of the Nizhny Novgorod City Administration and the Department of social support of population, labour and employment of the Nizhny Novgorod region. The financial support and administration was given by Swiss Contact, Senior Expert Corps (SEC), Switzerland.

January 11, 2008. In the beginning of the January, during Russian Christmas holidays our organization celebrated 8th Birthday. We joined this event together with another prominent event – consecration of the Consulting Diagnostic Center with early intervention service. On January 11, 2008 we invited our friends from the City’s Department of Education and Social and Legal Support of Childhood, our sponsors, journalists, and of course, children attending this center and their parents. Father Alexander from the church of Saint icon of Mother of God conducted a prayer service. After the service there was a celebration for the kids with Christmas presents. It was a nice uniting event both for children and parents.
During this action we raised money from our sponsors and authorities:

1. The City Department of Education assigned money for the necessary furniture;
2.  Department of preschool education of Autoplant district of Nizhny Novgorod has planned to fund  the renovation of the old electricity system on the ground floor of the building;
3. Our sponsors assigned money to buy a colour laser printer, a musical center for lessons and developing games;

December, 24-25 2007 in the framework of joint project “Pre-professional training of the teenagers and young people with limited abilities” together with the Nizhny Novgorod City Department of Education and Social and Legal Support of the Childhood were organized 2 practical seminars. About 90 people— specialists of educational, social and rehabilitational organizations, representatives of NGOs, young people with disabilities and active parents participated in these seminars.
Our colleagues from the Center of Therapeutic Pedagogics, Pskov prepared an impressive practical part with the Power Point presentations, videos and workshops.
Especially bright impression left the workshops with young peoples with disabilities. The teenagers were divided into 2 groups –  1st group was studying famous Nizhniy Novgorod regional craft Khokhloma – together with students from Nizhny Novgorod Professional College for Disabled, 2nd group – teenagers with complex and multiple disabilities ( epi-syndrom with mental retardation) –showed how they work with polygraphic equipment and produce notebooks and brochures. Specialists and parents also had chance to try themselves in polygraphic production and were very excited when they managed to laminate covers of the notebooks and to stitch pages. Everyone was amazed that these polygraphic works were accessible for young people with disabilities.
